Soroptimists of the South East of England are

campaigning for minimum standards in Women's Refuges

  • At present there is no governing body with responsibility for Women's Refuges

  • Refuges are run by a number of organisations with differing interests and priorities

  • There are no minimum requirements for the quality of accommodation, furnishing or space

  • No guidelines for counseling or care for either the women or their children

  • No financing

Remember we are talking about vulnerable victims not the perpetrators.

A questionnaire has been prepared for each club Programme Action Officer with questions relating to the Refuge's in their area. This information will be used to provide a lobbying base both at local and national level.

Once the information has been gathered, we will produce an authoritative document identifying the scale and nature of the problem. This will be presented to Soroptimist Federation officers with the view to National adoption. As a lobbying group we have considerable power. As a women's organisation we have a responsibility.
