from Jan Day - Regional President
When I joined the Greater London Club as a Soroptimist way back in 1986, I don't think I ever envisaged that I would be standing on a stage in Cardiff in front of 1800 people struggling to fit a Regional Presidential Chain of Office over my head. I trust this is not an omen!
It should go without saying that I feel privileged to be representing South East England as your President and will give it my full commitment during the year. Change of Insignia at Conference felt very special. The noises of encouragement from Region members certainly added to that special feel. What a supportive team you are! My thanks for the many goodwill cards and for the beautiful flowers I received.
The Conference theme - Horizons sing "Corwelion yn Canu" - was appropriately named, with incredible singing from both soloists and the wonderful Cordydd Choir - not to mention Kathryn Rees who played the harp beautifully. We didn't quite get to understand Welsh but had a fair amount of instruction in the language as the conference progressed!
What did I gain from Cardiff? The remembering of members no longer with us - especially Lynn Dunning, our past International President. The buzz of meeting with friends of many years, the greater understanding of how the mechanics of Federation works, the honesty of the financial situation and the responsibilities of the Federation Board now that SIGBI is a Limited Company. The Bras in the Bay Campaign! What more can I say! Thank you Jan for being such a wonderful ambassador for SIGBI and especially for SISEE.
What shall I bring back to Region? All of the above, but especially, remembering what a great organisation Soroptimist International is and how much I believe we can all achieve with my four Cs:
COMMUNICATION, CONSOLIDATION,
CO-OPERATION AND CONSIDERATION.
I look forward to seeing you at Regional meetings and club events and working together towards President Jackie Mosedale's theme for 2010 -
Accept the Challenge and Secure the Future.
In Friendship
Jan
