Prison Reform

The Club meeting on Wednesday 31st July 2013 was on the theme of Prison Reform. Amanda Hamblin DL and Jane King, who are both members of the Prison Independent Monitoring Board, gave an account of the problems women face whilst in prison. The meeting was attended by several guests including past Federation President Liz Batten, SE Region President Angela Edwards and Soroptimists from East Grinstead, Eastbourne and Tunbridge Wells. After a lively discussion, many participants adjourned to the Rainbow Inn in Cooksbridge for supper.

Change of Insignia

At the club meeting on Thursday 20th June 2013, Anne Hudson handed over the President’s Chain to Sarah Mackintosh.
Elizabeth Mackintosh and Sophie St Clair Jones then presented Anne with flowers and a book of pictures from her year as Founder President.

SI Lewes held its first AGM at the Beechwood Hall on Thursday 25th April 2013. Two new members, Vera Gajic and Amanda Hamblin, were inducted by President Anne and presented with their badges. After the conclusion of the formal meeting and a break for refreshments and networking, Susie Forbes, Regional Ambassador, gave a presentation about the BIG (Birthing in Gambia) Project. Members also stitched some more name tags for the Desconocida Unknown Ukjent Project.

Christmas Celebration 2012

On 15th December 2012 members of the Lewes Club and partners were joined by Regional President Angela Edwards and SI East Grinstead member Jane Oatey to hear about the Belfast Conference and enjoy festive drinks and nibbles.

The pictures below from our meeting on 22nd November 2012 shows members and guests networking during the refreshment break, and a discussion which followed a presentation by Lewes Amnesty International on the plight of Palestinian Children detained by the Israeli military. Pictured right is member Sophie St Clair Jones telling us about her recent trip to Cambodia where she met Soroptimists in Phnom Penh. Sophie outlined possible Programme Action arising from her visit.

Barbecue in Barcombe

On a hot and sunny Sunday 19th August 2012, members of the Lewes Club and their partners enjoyed a barbecue at a member’s home in Barcombe.

Bluebell Walk

On Tuesday 1st May 2012 members of the new Lewes Club and their partners enjoyed a walk around Bluebell Woods in Piltdown followed by a wine and cheese party.
