Lewes Societies Fair and September Meeting

We had a stand in the Town Hall at Lewes Societies Fair on Saturday 3rd September. A number people were interested in coming to our next meeting on Refugees which proved to bs both enlightening and interesting.
Jean talked to us about Lewes Group in Support of Refugees and Asylum Seekers (LGSRAS), which raises awareness and supports people and also lobbies local councils and the government to do more for refugees and asylum seekers.
We also heard from Maddie who spent a week at the Calais Jungle volunteering and told us about the day to day living conditions and the need for clean clothing, food and items that are culturally appropriate.
We then had a good discussion about how we in Lewes & District could help and support and we will continue this at a future meeting.

International Womens Day Breakfast

On Sunday 5th March, Lewes Soroptimists hosted an International Women's Day Breakfast at the White Hart Hotel. Liz Batten, a former SIGBI Federation President, gave a talk about the UN and what voice we have there. Each table of 6 held lively discussions about this year's theme Be Bold for Change and last year's Pledge for Parity and many issues in between. The 47 guests included Lewes Mayor Dr Graham Mayhew and Regional President Carol Infanti plus Soroptimists from Croydon, East Grinstead, Beckenham and Lewes, guests from other organisations and friends. A great way to keep the message alive and enjoy a tasty breakfast provided by The White Hart.
