Anne Hudson 8th January 1934 – 13th March 2019

We were very sad to hear of the passing of Anne Hudson who had been a supporter of Pestalozzi’s work for many years. Anne was a dedicated Soroptimist and together with her husband Andrew had been a committed host parent to many Pestalozzi students. She continued her love and support for her Pestalozzi family long after their Pestalozzi journey had ended. A service of thanksgiving took place on Tuesday 2nd April at St. Andrew and St. Mary the Virgin Church in Fletching. The service was led by Father Brian Murphy and the church was filled with family, friends, Pestalozzi students and alumni celebrating the extraordinary and full life that Anne lived.

There were readings and musical contributions from friends, family and fellow Soroptimists and Anne’s host-daughter, Mingyur Paldon, recited a Tibetan prayer. Tributes from Pestalozzi alumni who were unable to attend the service were also read out. Here are some extracts:

Anne was a mother to me. She has taught me so much about courage, simplicity, kindness, cooking, passion, and life in general. I will always remember her spirit, the spark in her eyes, her beautiful smile, the tenderness in the way she cared for the garden, the birds, and the eggs, and of course the taste of the delicious food she made. Pestalozzi and Shelley's Barn were home away from home because of you both. I am really sad that I didn't get to see her again. Uddhav and I were talking a few weeks ago about making a visit once our residency process was sorted out and we would be able to travel internationally. Alas! I still feel the warmth of her big hug from 2017. She will live on forever in our memories. What a role model she was!

I have a rush of memories in my head. She was an absolute beauty inside out.

It is extremely sad news to hear and saddest to believe that Anne is not with us anymore. Sitting at this distant place I wish ‘May her beautiful soul Rest in Peace’.
It just feels like yesterday that we were decorating the home for Christmas and enjoying dinner after a having a cooking lesson with Anne. I still remember the taste of delicious food and apple pie cooked by Anne. She gave me lots of cooking lessons but I have not yet been able to get the same taste as hers. Just a memory of all the moments we spent gardening, walking down the autumn colours or celebrating Christmas makes me feel lively till now. Anne driving the car through roads under the shadow of trees… all seems just like yesterday.
