Around 1950 the Horlicks family donated two new bells in memory of sons killed in the two World Wars thus increasing the peal at St Mary's from eight to ten.
The first successful peal attempt on the newly augmented ring of ten bells was made on 26th March 1951 when a peal of Grandsire Caters was rung in 3 hours 19 minutes. My father rang number 8.
