The conservation activities take place on Friday mornings at Briars Lodge Centre or in East Grinstead at Chequer Mead Theatre garden or East Court grounds.
Volunteers, supported by the East Grinstead Mental Health Association visit garden and grounds. They participate in conservation activities which have been described as ‘Green Gym-eco-therapy’.This gives individuals outdoor opportunities to work at their own pace, with a relaxed atmosphere and to have time for informal conversations with friends, conservationists and supporters whilst working and later over tea and coffee time. Volunteers also help with plant / animal identifications and surveys so that new discovery trails can be developed in preparation for schools and visitors. As well as gardening and the Centres' maintenance the volunteers are involved in art work; guiding for open gardens and group visits and photo displays of our work. The evidence of their work builds up to give them the opportunity to get outdoor activity awards.
