Bequest from Sheila Eustace to Meru Project
Sheila Eustace was a force to be reckoned with! There is no doubt about that, and anyone who knew her will agree. She had a wealth of knowledge about all things Soroptimist-related, particularly procedures and regulations, and a quick mind that questioned even the slightest deviation - she would certainly have had questions regarding No.63. She was also a staunch supporter of her club and each club President. She was President of Croydon and District club in 1993. When she retired, travelling the world was her passion, and she met and stayed with Soroptimists all over the world.

She passed away in 2015 but true to her nature, wanted to support those less fortunate. Among her generous bequests was £2,000 to the local
Women's Refuge (via SI Croydon and District) and £1,000 each to Soroptimist's Benevolent Fund, The Meru Women's Gardening Project, Water Aid and her club's charity which this year is Croydon Churches Floating Shelter.
Grant of Friendship
This year we were delighted to offer the Grant of Friendship to Jennifer Gaylard, Vice President from Cobram Barooga in Australia. They have 21 active members. The club is in a semi-rural area covering Northern Victoria and Southern New South Wales which is predominantly a farming community producing crops, fruit and dairy. Jennifer has visited all clubs in the Region and stayed with many members as she travelled around. Jennifer gave a presentation about her SI club at the Regional meeting on 7th October. Sometimes they have to travel 3 – 4 hours to get to a regional meeting. President Carol presented Jennifer with copies of ‘Voices in Verse’ and ‘Tellers of Tales’, a collections of poems and writings by women from around the world, edited by Jacque Emery a past Regional President.

Carol writes:
£1,600 was raised on the day plus £365 for the raffle.
I have had pledges of further donations to take the total to £2,000 for the Meru Women’s Garden Project.
As you can imagine I am really pleased.
I enjoyed the lunch and I have had some really good feedback about the hotel and meal.
Thank you to those who attended and to those giving donations. I really appreciate your support.
SI Beckenham Annual Lunch
This lunch event ,with Trish Stewart as the speaker, was excellent. Almost £1000 was raised for the Rush (Reaching the Unreached through Self Help) Project, thanks to the generosity of our many friends and Soroptimists. This money will fund a new toilet block for the girls so they can go to school.
